The Dark Stallion

Vizio’s Thin Light laptop range is a part of the company’s first expedition into the personal computer market. At a glance, Vizio seems to know what it’s doing, using unibody aluminum designs and FullHD displays that look excellent from most angles. In my hands-on time, I found the trackpad to be smooth despite its matte finish, and the unique look of the keyboard helps these notebooks look less like MacBook Airs than some of the competition. They’ll be available in 14-in. and 15.6-in. screen sizes this May, but no word on its price just yet.

The Little Flipper

Lenovo’s Yoga was the only Windows 8 laptop-tablet hybrid that could be found at CES 2012, which is awesome because whereas most laptops fold down only to around 180 degrees or less, the Yoga’s 13-in. screen folds all the way around to the other side of the laptop, turning into a tablet, albeit a heavy one at 3.5 lb. The funny thing is that you can still feel the keys on the bottom of the tablet when it’s folded around, but at that point they’re disabled. Lenovo’s targeting $1,000, and you’ll see it some time after Windows 8 launches in the second half of the year.
